It’s time for a taste of Mexico, with UFC Fight Night 114 coming to us from Mexico City and featuring… a whole hell of a lot of Mexicans. In the main event we have Sergio Pettis taking on Brandon Moreno, and the co-main features Rando Markos versus Alexa Grasso (who failed to make weight, but whatever).
First up: Jordan Rinaldi against Alvaro Herrera.
Herrera washed out of a season of TUF Latam, but has gone 1-1 in the Octagon since then. Rinaldi went the distance with Abel Trujillo in his only UFC fight, which paints him as pretty tough.
Round 1 opens with Rinaldi throwing kicks while feigning takedown attempts, and Herrera makes him eat knuckles. They end up grappling, with Herrera hunting for a choke, but Rinaldi scrambles, gets on top, and when Herrera leaves his arm in the wrong place, Rinaldi leans into his neck for a Von Flue Choke. That’s all she wrote.
Bad start for Team Mexico.
Results: Jordan Rinaldi def. Alvaro Herrera via Submission (Von Flue Choke) at 2:01, R1
