Welcome to CagedInsider’s coverage of UFC Fight Night 113, an event coming to us from Glasgow, Scotland and featuring jiu-jitsu stud Gunnar Nelson against Santiago Ponzinibbio in the main event.
First up: Leslie Smith versus Amanda Lemos. Smith is probably one of the UFC’s most durable journeyman (journeywoman?) fighters, so she gets thrown in with everyone. Lemos has emerged from the jungles of Brazil to debut in the Octagon.
Round 1 begins with Lemos establishing her low-kick, and given Smith’s penchant for walking forward and eating everything, this low-kick seems to be Lemos’ money shot. Just as she supposed to be doing, Lemos is also staying mobile, constantly moving away whenever Smith tries to get close enough to unload with punches. To seal the deal for the round, Lemos even sweeps out Smith’s leg and spends some time on top before the horn sounds.
The Brazilian keeps up the damaging kicks and punches in the second, and Smith just keeps on coming… and holy cow does it actually work in tiring Lemos out. In fact, it gives Smith just the opening she needs, both to nail Lemos with a high-kick and ring her bell with punches. Eventually, the traffic is entirely one-way, and the referee has to jump in to save Lemos’ life.
Results: Leslie Smith def. Amanda Lemos via TKO (Strikes) at 2:53, R2
