They can’t always be star-filled UFC events, but at least UFC Fight Night 101 out of Melbourne, Australia had something going for it – a main event of reckless abandon and wanton destruction between Derek Brunson and Robert Whittaker. But first – Jon Tuck versus Damien Brown on the prelims.
Tuck is perhaps most “famous” for trying (and failing) to get into the TUF House (he lost to Al Iaquinta). But he’s a well-rounded dude, and it shows in the opening round of his scrap with Brown. In immediate takedown attempt has Tuck fending off an arm-in guillotine, laying down some ground and pound, and when they’re back up, Tuck puts him on his butt with a right hand.
The second starts off with Brown taking a hard kick to the junk, and a restart has him chewing a slowing Tuck down with relentless boxing. Tuck turns his nose into a faucet, but Brown is mixing in spinning kicks and jumping techniques, so what’s a little blood?
It should be more or less tied going into Round 3, so in the face of Tuck trying to pick and choose his openings to strike, Brown just decides to go buckwild, throw every technique he can think of, and bleed everywhere. It works.
