Well it looks like us Americans will have to tread on over to native soil again for next year’s UFC fan expo. So far expo’s have been held in Las Vegas, Boston and now London [which coincides with UFC 120], but reports have been made that the organization will be heading over to good ole’ Canada..Toronto most likely.
Earlier today the press conference for UFC 124, which is being held in Montreal, the organization’s Director of Canadian Operations, Tom Wright, made the comment;
“I think if we bring a Fan Expo to Canada, most likely it would come to Ontario.”
He also mentioned that the UFC is planning on doing three PPV events every year in Canada. In spring of this year, the UFC made their first appearance in Canada at UFC 113, and Vancouver hosted UFC 115. And in August, Ontario sanctioned MMA and opened the flood-gates to Canada’s big city, Toronto.
“Last week, we met in Vancouver to bring our second fight there,” Wright said. “We’ve already had conversations about bringing our first event to Toronto, and that’s where we would probably hold a Fan Expo.”
A date has not yet been set a Toronto card, but will most likely happen somewhere midway through 2011. Reports made earlier stated that the event will most likely take place in Roger Centre formerly known as the SkyDome, which is also home to the Toronto Blue Jays.
“We haven’t set a time line,” Wright said. “On Aug. 14, the Ontario government sanctioned mixed martial arts in Ontario and the regulatory process has just started. We hope to have it completed by the end of the year, and we’ve already started to have discussions about a venue in Toronto. Most likely, we’re looking at the first UFC event in Toronto sometime midyear. The date hasn’t been selected yet because we haven’t completed the regulatory process. But it’s going to be a big event.”
