Whenever female strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk fights, the mental onslaught begins long before the physical onslaught is even underway. For challenger Rose Namajunas, that meant Jedrzejczyk getting in her face at every media event, assailing the TUF vet with her unwavering confidence and vows of violence. Namajunas has been stoic throughout it all, but you have to think that the massive underdog is at least a little affected by it. We’ll see!
The first round opens with Namajunas wasting no time getting in front of Jedrzejczyk and trading leather. And holy crap, she outguns the champ and sends her to the canvas. It takes a little work for Jedrzejczyk to get back up, but when she does, the two ladies are back at it, swinging away, and… BOOM, Namajunas drops her again, this time with a crisp left hook that puts the Polish fighter’s brain in another timezone. Namajunas pounces with all the ferocity a human being is capable of, and Jedrzejczyk turtles, then taps just as the ref jumps in.
Namajunas is your new strawweight champ!
