Welcome to CagedInsider’s coverage of UFC 211, a big pay-per-view installment headlined by a heavyweight title fight and a female strawweight title fight. First up: Jessica Aguilar versus Cortney Casey.
Aguilar was, at one point, one of the best female fighters in the world, but she’s been plagued by injuries, and all that hard mileage has taken a toll. Casey, meanwhile, has kept her Octagon career alive by submitting Randa Markos and going the distance with Claudia Gadelha.
Round 1 opens with Casey establishing herself as a striking threat and Aguilar opting to put the fight horizontal. But Casey is aggressive from her back, and soon the former WSOF champ is taking damage no matter where the fight goes.
There’s more of the same in the second – Aguilar controlling where the fight ends up while Casey knocks her around from the bottom and on the feet, and you have to wonder if Aguilar will be able to solve this riddle.
The third and final round has Casey just battering her opponent, and a bloody Aguilar can do nothing but throw the occasional strike and go for the occasional takedown. When time expires, you know who the judges will favor.
Results: Cortney Casey def. Jessica Aguilar via Unanimous Decision
