A year ago, Will Brooks was a Bellator champ testing the free-agency waters, and he liked what he saw in the UFC’s offer and came on board. But since then, he went 1-1 in the Octagon, and has been less than impressive.
At UFC 210, Brooks was supposed to handle Brazilian submission specialist Charles Oliveira and get an impressive win over a veteran opponent. Too bad Oliveira had other ideas.
In the opening moments the two traded kicks, but before any punches could be exchanged Oliveira got the takedown. Brooks avoided trouble and used the cage to get back up, but his time on his feet was short lived, with Oliveira slamming him down and taking his back in the scramble. Again Brooks rose, but Oliveira was on him like a backpack, and soon his arms were snaked tightly around the American’s neck. Brooks had no choice but to tap out.
