It’s a helluva thing going from a bout scheduled for the Fight Pass prelims to a main card bout, but when Tony Ferguson versus Khabib Nurmagomedov was scrapped, there was suddenly some available real estate. That’s how fans came to see Cynthia Calvillo and Amanda Cooper mix it up – two ladies whose records are so short on experience, it’s almost a slap in the face that they’re even in the UFC.
All you needed to know was that Cooper was a TUF vet and Calvillo was a Team Alpha Male product.
In the opening minute they traded feeble strikes, and you got the sense that it would be years before either lady would be challenging for the belt. Then came the quick and sudden grappling sequence, with Calvillo turning a roll into a sprawl into a D’Arce into a back-take. It was kind of sweet, and in another instant she was applying a rear naked choke. Cooper soon had no choice but to tap.
