Human flagpole Stefan Struve was making a name for himself in the heavyweight division when some sort of grave heart condition put his career on ice. But he’s back, presumably with a ticker that won’t explode in the midst of a fistfight, and standing before him at UFC 204 is Polish lunk Daniel Omielanczuk.
The opening round has Omielanczuk charging throwing Struves kicks and knees and throwing the kind of leather that would take a normal man’s head off. Obviously, the Polish fighter’s goal is to win this one on the feet – so Struve flips the script and brings the fight to the ground. Omielanczuk fends off the arm-triangle choke and the rear naked choke, but he needs to get up to win this.
Round 2 opens with the two clinching, and after landing a knee, Struve scores a trip to gain top position. In the ensuing scramble he slips on the D’Arce choke, and that’s all she wrote.
