Ovince St. Preux was banging on the ceiling of the light-heavyweight division, challenging Jon Jones and scoring some respectable wins. Jimi Manuwa, meanwhile, was losing to the best and beating the rest, so really, these guys have been on similar tracks. Time for them to clash at UFC 204 then!
OSP shows no real fear of Manuwa’s striking, as he lands some kicks and punches early on before working to out-wrestle Brit. They spend quite a bit of the first jockeying for superiority against the cage, and in the latter half of the round OSP succeeds in getting him down, but Manuwa is good about not making any grave mistakes, so they’re pretty stalemated.
Round 2 begins with more trading on the feet, and though OSP scores with his jab and some kicks, it’s Manuwa who seems large and in charge. This manifests in the form of the Brit digging into OSP’s body with punches, chopping away with kicks, blasting OSP with a flying knee, and when the opening presents itself, landing a left and a right that sends the American into La-La Land. BOOM.
