The main event is here, and it features champ Robbie Lawler taking on challenger Tyron Woodley. This match-up seems purely academic, and something Woodley deserves only because he’s amassed some wins in the Octagon. But Lawler has been in the game for so damn long, and has waged so many body-destroying wars, that it seems unfair that these two are meeting in the cage. But here we are, so just enjoy it.
Woodley’s obvious game plan is to employ his wrestling – which he has in spades – and that has Lawler hanging back waiting for an opening to land one of his counter bombs. They clinch against the cage within the first few seconds, but referee Dan Miragliotta breaks him up and they’re circling. And then… BOOM! Woodley lands a crushing right hand that stuns Lawler and sends him stiff to the mat. The following punches make sure Lawler isn’t getting up, and we have a new welterweight champ, folks.
Result: Tyron Woodley def. Robbie Lawler via KO (Punches) at 2:12, R1
