It’s hard to imagine much more of a career for Vitor Belfort now that we’re in the post-TRT world, but here we are at UFC 198, watching him take on Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the co-main event. Anyway, Belfort has a black belt in jiu-jitsu, but his ground skills pale in comparison to Jacare’s; meanwhile, Jacare’s striking is nowhere near Belfort’s level, so we’ll see how this goes.
As expected, Jacare wants nothing to do with his opponent’s boxing range, so he starts off throwing kicks, then switches to takedowns. Belfort stuffs the first, but he goes down on an ankle pick and enters a world of hurt. At one point, the former UFC champ escapes back to his feet, although the victory is short-lived, as Jacare takes him down again and secures mount.
From there it’s all about Jacare dropping bombs and Belfort turning into hamburger, and the ref mercifully steps in.
Result: Ronaldo “Jacare” Souze def. Vitor Belfort via TKO (Punches) at 4:38, R1
