Sergio Pettis, the kid brother of Anthony, came into the UFC with tons of hype, and has thus far lived up to none of it. Oh well. Tonight he’s headlining the FOX Sports 1 prelims opposite Chris Kelades, so we’ll see how that goes.
The perfect picture of mobility, Pettis is in constant motion, dancing in and out and popping Kelades with jabs and lightning-like kicks repeatedly. It takes Kelades a half a round to even be able to clinch with him, but he can’t take him down, and when Kelades throws a kick, Pettis catches it and sweeps out the other leg to send him to the canvas.
Kelades takes a page from Pettis’ book and catches his kick to take him down in the opening of Round 2. Unfortunately for him, Pettis has got some skills on the ground too, and he sweeps him. When they’re back on the feet Pettis tries to keep dancing, but Kelades is willing to eat strikes just to get his hands on him, so what follows is more even and more brutal.
They resume the punchfest in Round 3, and this time Pettis scores a takedown and winds up on top. Eventually they work back to their feet, and if Kelades was willing to eat leather to throw leather, it’s even more true this time around. Pettis obliges him, and even goes for more takedowns. The horn sounds with Kelades going for a Peruvian Necktie – too little, too late.
Results: Sergio Pettis def. Chris Kelades via Unanimous Decision
