That much-talked about rematch between Jessica Aguilar and Carla Esparza will have to wait, as Aguilar has agreed to face Juliana Lima at UFC 197.
The promotion announced the women’s strawweight contest for the April 23 event from Las Vegas recently via Twitter.
Recently, Aguilar (19-5) and Esparza (10-3) engaged in a back-and-forth battle on social media, with each calling the other out. In 2011, Aguilar claimed a split decision over the former UFC champion at Bellator 46.
That win was part of a 10-fight win streak for Aguilar that came to a halt last August in her Octagon debut vs. Claudia Gadelha. Esparza, meanwhile, has not fought since dropping the title to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in March.
Lima (8-2) is on a two-fight win streak since a loss to Jedrzejczyk back in 2014. She has scored decisions over Ericka Almeida and Nina Ansaroff.
UFC 197 features a rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier for Cormier’s light heavyweight title, along with Demetrious Johnson defending his flyweight belt vs. Henry Cejudo.
