It’s time for the main event, which has featherweight champ Conor McGregor taking on late-replacement Nate Diaz at welterweight.
McGregor comes out confident, aggressive and winging punches and wild, arcing kicks. Diaz clinches with him against the cage, but the Irishman shrugs him away. The distance favors McGregor with his fast strikes, yet Diaz does manage to peg him with a few jabs and the occasional cross. In the waning seconds of the round Diaz is successful with a takedown. McGregor quickly sweeps him, and the round ends with him above a bloody Diaz.
Diaz is getting lit up in the second, with McGregor’s uppercuts finding their mark and the Stockton bad boy getting bloodier and bloodier. Then…
…Then Diaz nails him with a one-two, and McGregor is rocked, and no longer is the featherweight king playing the game his game – he’s stuck playing Diaz’s. He throws leather, Diaz throws back, and soon McGregor is shooting for a weak takedown. Diaz stuffs him easily, rolls him over and takes mount, and when McGregor rolls, Diaz takes his back, sinks the choke, AND TAPS HIM OUT.
