Hugo Viana vs. Guido Cannetti

We begin the night in the bantamweight division with Brazilian Hugo Viana (8-2) taking on Guido Cannetti (6-2).

Round 1: Viana finds his mark here early, catching Cannetti and trying to follow up. Big spinning low-kick by Cannetti and they have a nice leg-lock situation going here in the early stages. Viana spins and takes the back, landing some solid hammer-fists. Knees to the body and Viana resorts back to the clinch. The ref steps in and separates them with a minute left. Superman punch by Viana misses.

Round 2: Takedown for Cannetti, much to the surprise of Viana. The Brazilian was wobbled by the head-kick from Cannetti, but he appears to have recovered. Viana high-kicks his way up and out, regaining the clinch against the fence and scoring with a single-leg takedown. Swift body-lock takedown for Cannetti, but he’s unable to do anything with it. Another head-kick attempt is blocked this time by Viana. Takedown for Viana, but a high guard by Cannetti is keeping him from absorbing damage. Viana changes position and lands with hammer-fists, posturing up and doing major damage now.

Round 3: Viana working hard for the takedown, but he’s eating several knees to the body for his effort. He gets Cannetti down, but only for about a second, as he pops right back up. More of Viana grinding on him inside the clinch against the fence, and they finally separate with two-plus minutes left. Cannetti with a big head-kick and he follows up with stiff rights, but Viana gets a quick takedown and regains the advantage. Takedown for Cannetti, but he can’t keep “Wolverine” there. Clint Hester vs. Vitor Miranda

We’ll conclude the early Fight Pass prelims with middleweights Clint Hester (11-4) and Vitor Miranda (10-4).

Round 1: Hester keeping Miranda at bay with his wrestling, scoring a takedown. Miranda, though, reverses and is on top, doing damage with heavy, heavy lefts. He’s peppering him with quick shots to the face, really imposing his will on Hester here. Big cut has been opened up over the eye of Hester from the shots. He’s working for a potential head-and-arm choke but the round comes to an end, saving Hester.

Round 2: Hester working hard for the takedown again this round, but Miranda denies it and sweeps him off his feet with a swift kick. More kicks to the lead leg by “Lex Luthor,” as Hester tries a spinning attack. Hester is the more aggressive fighter, moving forward constantly. He shoots for another takedown and Miranda elects to just pull guard more or less and hammer away to the body. Back to the feet and a knee just misses by the Brazilian. Miranda on top, pounding away and this might get a stoppage. He’s really working over Hester with more than half the round remaining. A series of elbows and Herb Dean steps in, calling a stop to this one.
