Lest ye forget amidst all this talk of rib injuries, wayward Brazilians and who knew what when, Conor McGregor is still fighting at UFC 189 next weekend. And the dude is really, really good at kicking ass.
Take, for instance, his scrap against Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 last September.
The Irishman had a world full of hype behind him, but he’d yet to face anyone of any true accomplishment in the Octagon. Enter: Poirier, who’d been headlining UFC events by that point, and for a time was heralded as a top up-and-comer who’d likely earn a belt one day.
We like our heroes tested, so this was the perfect test for McGregor. Poirier was a well-rounded fighter capable of banging it out with precision on the feet, and he was dangerous as hell on the ground. How could we not know where McGregor stood in the food chain when the dust settled?
Well, the dust settled and Poirier was destroyed. Pretty easily, too.
Here’s the fight. Watch, enjoy, and get motivated to see McGregor take on Chad Mendes.
