Weigh-ins are in the books for UFC 181, with every fighter successfully on weight and both title fights officially on.
Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis endured a surprising number of boo’s from the Las Vegas audience as he weighed in to face challenger Gilbert Melendez.
In a brief interview, Melendez described the fight as “the most important fight of my life,” and noted, “I’m bringing the fight to him tomorrow!” Pettis was barely audible over the crowd, describing himself “the best in the world.”
Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks, who will defend his belt against Robbie Lawler in tomorrow’s main event, said he has to knock his opponent out.
For his part, Lawler said only, “the time for talk is over, let’s do this boys!”
As usual, there were a few moments of theatrics.
From the undercard, Ashlee Evans-Smith turned to the crowd and bent at the waist as she removed her warm-ups, with “stay ready” across the back of her shorts.
Josh Samin smiled his way through the staredown with his opponent Eddie Gordon, ignoring Gordon’s intense glare.
Cory Anderson enjoyed a selfie prior to his standoff with Justin Jones, who didn’t seem amused.
In another staredown, Tony Ferguson appeared to switch levels into a wrestling stance, but his opponent Abel Trujillo didn’t return the favor, and the two parted without the traditional handshake.
Brandon Schaub looked a little “softer” than usual — he and opponent Travis Browne were pulled apart after an intense standoff, to the delight of the crowd.
