The UFC dodged a Texas-sized bullet in Dallas today.
Johnny Hendricks was able to make weight on his second attempt, so tomorrow’s UFC 171 Welterweight title bout will go on as originally scheduled.
Hendricks had been one of three fighters to miss weight earlier in the day. Each athlete was given two hours to lose the weight and reach the contracted limits for their respective bouts tomorrow.
Kevin Gastelum also initially missed the welterweight limit, but was able to make weight on a second try for his scheduled bout against Rick Story.
The third, Renee Forte, missed again for his lightweight contest against Francisco “Frank” Trevino, and decided he was unable to lose any more weight. He will now forfeit 20% of his purse to his opponent Trevino, but the bout, now at a “catch-weight” of 157 lbs, will still take place among tomorrow’s preliminary bouts.
