After John Makdessi was forced to drop out of a scheduled UFC 162 tilt with Edson Barboza due to injury (which would have been fantastic), the talented striker will return to action on September 21st to take on TUF Brazil vet Renee Forte. The bout will be part of UFC 165 in Toronto, which will feature light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones taking on Alexander Gustafsson in the main event.
Makdessi (11-2) will be looking to extend his winning streak to three, as “The Bull” has scored UD victories over Sam Stout and Daron Cruickshank in his last two outings. Prior to the wins the TriStar fighter was defeated by Dennis Hallman and Anthony Njokuani. The Montreal fighter has gone 4-2 since arriving in the UFC.
Forte (8-2) will be looking to build on his first UFC win, as the Brazilian lightweight worked his way to a decision victory over Terry Etim in February, after he was submitted by Sergio Moraes at UFC 153 in October. Forte is 1-1 in Octagon action.
To date, 11 bouts have been confirmed for UFC 165, which will be hosted by Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. Some of the other bouts scheduled for the card include bantamweight interim champ Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland, lightweight Mike Ricci vs. Myles Jury and Khabi Nurmagomedov vs. lightweight Pat Healy.
