The August 31st, UFC 164 card in Milwaukee has twelve bouts set, as the promotion has announced that former WEC champ Jamie Varner will battle veteran lightweight Gleison Tibau.
Varner (21-7-1) will look to build on the split decision win he scored over Melvin Guillard at UFC 155 in December, after he was submitted by Joe Lauzon at UFC on FOX 4 last August. The 28 year-old fighter has gone 4-1 in his last five bouts, and has rebounded nicely, after going winless in his last four fights to close out his WEC tenure.
Tibau (27-9) continues to be one of the UFC’s most reliable (and biggest) lightweights, as the veteran is coming off a submission win over John Cholish at UFC on FOX 8 to move his Octagon record to 12-7. Tibau’s been competing in the UFC now for nearly seven years. Time flies.
UFC 164 will be hosted by Milwaukee’s Bradley Centre and will feature lightweight champion Benson Henderson taking on TJ Grant in the main event.
