The UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre has signed on to take on his arch-rival Nick Diaz in front of his home crowd in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on March 16th, as verified by Dana White during yesterdays TUF 16 Finale. Also included on the card is St-Pierre’s training partner Rory MacDonald, looking to avenge his sole loss to Carlos Condit in the co-main. Capping off the headline is a third welterweight bout between argued top contender Johny Hendrick and dangerous Jake Ellenberger.
St-Pierre was recently seen coming off a dominant performance over former contender Carlos Condit after an 18-month layoff due to a severe ACL tear. Fully repaired, Georges has personally asked for the trash talking Stockton stand-out.
“There’s been a lot of talk about who I should fight next but this was really the only choice for me,” said St-Pierre. “He’s made it personal and I personally can’t wait.”
Nick Diaz has been a polarizing figure in MMA for years, with an impressive reign in Strikeforce promotions, as well as his more recent win over the Prodigy, BJ Penn. Nick is now ready to challenge the long running UFC champ.
“This is the fight I want,” Diaz said. “I want to go out there and beat Georges St-Pierre in Montreal and show that I’m the best welterweight in the world.”
