It may not be against Cristiane ‘Cyborg,’ but will take it.
Ronda Rousey has traded in her Strikeforce title for a shiny new UFC bantamweight title, and now she is scheduled to debut in the UFC for her first defense. UFC president has broke the news today that we will in fact see the first UFC female bout at UFC 157 in the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
“In the UFC, Feb 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. (Ronda Rousey) will be fighting Liz Carmouche, and she is the main event,” said White.
Rousey was quick to clarify that women have made it to the big show, and will be here for now on.
“I think the women are here to stay and I want to prove it,” said Rousey.
White also let it be known that Rousey may be a valued commodity to the company, but there aren’t too many female fighters looking to challenge her for her newly acquired belt.
“That’s who wanted to fight her. Believe me, people aren’t kicking the door down at Zuffa wanting to fight her,” White said about Carmouche.
UFC 157 is set to take place Feb. 23 from Anaheim, CA and will be a pay-per-view event. Also expected to headline on the card is a contender fight between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida.
