Two pair of middleweight matches have been added to UFC on Fuel TV 10, which acts as the finale for the second season of the Ultimate Fighter: Brazil. The card takes place in Fortaleza, Brazil at Ginásio Paulo Sarasate on June 8, and is headlined by a heavyweight bout between the season’s coaches, Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Of course, both of these additonal matches have a Brazilian fighter in them. Ronny Markes will be taking on Derek Brunson and Karlos Vemola steps in to face Caio Magalhaes.
Markes has so far been flawless in his UFC career by going 3-0 in the Octagon. His only loss, in his career, comes by way of armbar in 2010. He has shown to be able to contend with high-level wrestlers in his fight against Aaron Simpson. Both Markes and Brunson are very well-rounded and have a lot to offer to the fans, but Markes, on paper, seems to have the advantage going into this bout.
Vemola and Magalhaes could be fighting for their jobs in this fight, because with a loss their head may be on the chopping block. Magalhaes was undefeated before his debut, but lost a decision to Buddy Roberts. It will be a year since that bout, and at 25-years old he is still improving everyday. Vemola is an oddity as a fighter, having fought in three different weight classes in the Octagon. At middleweight, he has gone 1-1 with both his win and loss coming by submission. He is a former Czech national wrestling champion, which might come into play, but he will have to watch out for the ground game of the BJJ black belt Magalhaes.
