The TUF 24 Finale was all about the flyweights, and two top contenders were determined to stake their claim as next in line despite each having lost to the champ already.
From the outset, Olympian Henry Cejudo and Joseph Benavidez were out for blood, slinging leather like crazy. In no time Benavidez went down, and though he popped back up, it was clear Cejudo was packing power. Unfortunately, some errant low kicks had the referee deducting a point from Cejudo, and that point deficit would come back to haunt him.
The second round saw more slugging, with Benavidez moving in and out and Cejudo swinging for the fences. The third had Benavidez regaining lost ground, and though he was taken down and had to fend off a guillotine attempt, he was content to go toe-to-toe until time ran out.
When the dust settled Benavidez came away with the split decision, but it really could’ve gone either way.
