UFC on Fox Sports 1 is beginning to take form as Thiago Alves (19-9) and Matt Brown (17-11) agree to meet on the featured card in Boston on August 17. Unofficial at this time, but according to numerous sources, the premiere on the new Fox Sports 1 channel (currently Speed Channel) is expected to headline Chael Sonnen versus Wanderlei Silva, live from the TD Garden Arena. As Dana White had promised, they will look to make a splash with a stacked card on that night.
Currently riding an impressive five fight win-streak, including four by KO stoppages and a Fight of the Night bonus, it’s getting harder and harder to deny “The Immortal” a title shot. Having not lost since back in 2011, the only matter slowing the contender in a win now would be if champ Georges St-Pierre defeats Johny Hendricks and accepting a ‘super-fight’ against middleweight champ Anderson Silva. That match-up however has seemed less likely as of late to take place.
As for Alves — between injuries and returning with a submission loss to Martin Kampmann in March of 2012, he will have plenty to prove against his opponent after another year layoff. It was back in 2009 when Alves took on Georges St-Pierre for the title, after picking up seven straight victories, majority by TKO or KO finish.
