As we now know, Rich Franklin has taken the main event slot for an injured Belfort, opposite of Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147. Cung Le was without an opponent for UFC 148, which will take place in Las Vegas, NV on July 7th. His wait for an opponent is now over as former middleweight contender, Patrick “The Predator” Cote has been called back up to the big show to fill in the empty spot.
Cote’s career in the UFC has been an up and down rollercoaster of wins and losses . His first stint in the UFC was a failure, having gone 0-3. From there he was brought back as a contestant on the comeback season of The Ultimate Fighter. He made it to the finals, but ultimately lost to Travis Lutter in the finals. Then rattling off four wins, he was rewarded with a shot at champion Anderson Silva. The bout proved to be bad timing as Cote blew out his knee. A year and a half layoff preceded two losses, which meant his departure from the organization. He kept his streak alive of never losing outside the UFC by winning four straight, earning the return. Cote will have a tough welcome back, as he faces the former Strikeforce champion.
Le, may be a top level striker with his crafty kicks, but he is also nearing the end of his career, as he recently hit the dreaded age of 40. He will attempt to gain his first win in the octagon, after his second round loss at the hands of Wanderlei Silva. Both fighters are vying for their futures to continue in the UFC, but only one of them will be able to secure that future with a win.
