The Most Important – And Overlooked – Fight at UFC 190

The UFC has a champ that’s an absolute killer, and Saturday night helped cement who should be next in line to face her.

Ha! You thought I was somehow talking about Ronda Rousey, didn’t you? Nope, I’m talking about strawweight queen Joanna Jędrzejczyk, who’s taken out the best in her division with vicious striking and hella violence. Well, UFC 190 saw the next two best ladies in that weight class duke it out, and now we know who gets a crack at the champ next.

For three rounds Brazilian Claudia Gadelha and former WSOF champ Jessica Aguilar battled, and through it all it was Gadelha who was dishing out a nonstop beating on the feet. With faster punches, endless combos, perfectly-timed takedowns, and the kind of aggression that seemed never-ending, Gadelha left the highly-touted Aguilar battered and bloody when the judges scorecards were read.

Now Gadelha gets to take on Jędrzejczyk. The two fought hard once already, with the Polish fighter taking the split decision at UFC on FOX: Dos Santos vs. Miocic back in December. That earned Jędrzejczyk a title shot, and she made the most of it, going on to utterly destroy then-champ Carla Esparza, and crush her next challenger in Jessica Penne.

Will Gadelha get revenge and earn back that loss that derailed her title hopes last year? Or is the champ actually more of a badass now than she was when they first fought? I’m leaning towards the latter, but either way, when Gadelha and Jedrzejczyk meet again, it’s going to be fun.

And violent.
