The Karate Hottie Makes the Most of Her UFC Debut

If you were on of the 11 people who tuned in to the TUF 21 Finale tonight to see who won the season, congrats. You’re one of 11 people who did so. Weirdo.

However, if, like everyone else, you watched the FOX Sports 1 broadcast to see former Invicta FC champ Michelle Waterson make her Octagon debut, then you were rewarded with seeing one of the strawweight division’s hottest prospects.

(And by “hot” I mean full of talent and promise. Her nickname “The Karate Hottie” is purely a coincidence. Ahem.)

For two full rounds Waterson threw, out-struck, out-grappled and out-worked opponent Angela Magana. Which was expected, as Magana was never invited into the UFC under the notion that she was one of the best. But since there’s always a big question mark hanging over the heads of UFC rookies, what with the pressure and Octagon jitters and all that, it was never a total given that Waterson would kick ass.

Thankfully, she did. And when she came out in the third round, took Magana’s back, flattened her out, and tapped her with a rear naked choke, the UFC was suddenly blessed with another member of the 115-pound weight class that makes for a plethora of compelling fights.

Waterson vs. Rose Namajunas? I’d watch that. Waterson vs. Tecia Torres? Sounds good to me. Waterson vs. Joanna Jędrzejczyk? Whoa, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

Anyway, Waterson looked great in her UFC debut! Hooray!
