“The Belt is Mine”: Claudia Gadelha Rips “Disrespectful” Jedrzejczyk

Following her victory over former WSOF women’s strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar, Claudia Gadelha became many fans choice for the next UFC title shot at 115 lbs.

Gadelha, who is 13-1 in her MMA career (2-1 in the UFC), suffered the only loss of her career to UFC champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk back in 2014. That bout was decided by the judges — and it was a split decision which many observers disagreed with.

It seemed only natural to pair the two again, later this year.

Unfortunately for Gadelha, who fights out of the vaunted Nova União camp in her native Brazil, it appears that won’t be the case. Plans are rumored for Valerie Letourneau to face Jedrzejczyk next, at UFC 193 in Australia.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Gadelha expresses surprise at the turn of events — claiming that Jedrzejczyk is avoiding her.

“Joanna said she would be ready to fight me by December or January because of her injury, but she’s ready to fight someone else earlier,” Gadelha said.

But, she’s confident she will be champion soon anyway.

“Put another one in front of me and I will run through her,” Gadelha said. “This fight will happen, but this is really disrespectful. The belt is mine. I beat her once, and I will beat her again. They are trying to take this away from me for a while, but my time will come.”
