While Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira recovers from arm surgery he required, following his submission loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC on FUEL TV 10, the legendary fighter can ponder whether he wants to fight Stefan Struve. The reason being is that the 25 year-old heavyweight has called out the former PRIDE champ, by tweeting on Wednesday:
Bigger they are, harder they fall huh @Minotauromma , lets back those words up and sign the contract, I’m waiting for you.. @danawhite@ufc
The statement is in keeping with an interview Struve did recently with Bleacher Report, where he relayed that “Big Nog” is one of his favorite fighters ever, and that he’s interesting in fighting his idol. There seems to be a lot of that going around in MMA.
Struve has yet to have a fight booked, after Mark Hunt floored him with a left hook at UFC on FUEL TV 8 in March ,and broke his jaw. Prior to the loss Struve had won four straight, which included a stoppage win over Stipe Miocic.
Nogueira is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months, as a result of his surgery, and hasn’t responded yet to Struve’s proposal. Heading into his bout with Werdum the 37 year-old talked of his desire to get back into the title hunt, and although that may be difficult now, he could be interested in facing a promising fighter like Struve.
Struve also added that he doesn’t care about when and where a bout with Nogueira might take place, he just wants to “do it.” Let the waiting game begin.
