Not a bad choice for the Fuel TV headline winner Stefan Struve, as he comes off the TKO victory over the formerly undefeated Stipe Miocic. Aware of his current standings in the division, Struve calls for a notable opponent with steam behind him as well in order to help raise him to the top of the heavyweight division rankings.
“I think I’m a couple wins away [from a title shot], one or two. I think [Fabricio] Werdum would be an awesome fight for my next fight. I think I can cope with him on the ground, and I think I can rough him up on the feet.”
The newly increased 7-foot-tall striker’s interest in a match-up with the re-surfacing Fabricio Werdum is an intriguing and plausible one. As Struve points out, there is not many other fighters on the same winning streak in the division currently.
“I don’t think there’s a lot of guys on a four-fight win streak in the heavyweight division right now,” Struve remarked after his victory. “Four finishes in my last four fights.
The only issue with the proposed match-up is that Werdum is also rumored to be a back-up challenger for the headline fight against Daniel Cormier in his final Strikeforce bout. Interestingly enough, Cormier has called for a fight with fellow Louisiana native Pat Barry. With former K-1 fighter – Barry coming off a recent TKO loss to Lavar Johnson, the fight may be a hard sell to the fans however.
