Just say it was the mexican guy again. The days of Chael Sonnen’s controversial insults being hurled at celebs may be no more. Following a joke involving R&B singer Rihanna and Floyd Mayweather Jr., Fox Sports has apologized. If they think this is bad, they should hear his Lance Armstrong shtick. Here’s the joke that seems to have ‘ruffled feathers.’
“Look, Floyd (Mayweather) needs to keep doing what he’s doing, which is fighting complete tomato cans that we’ve never heard of before. I’ve never seen anybody in the history of America get so rich and so famous off of having complete wimps throwing punch at their faces. I know what you’re saying. You’re saying, ‘Well, it’s happened before, what about Rihanna?’ … Too soon? Was it too soon?”
Not Chael’s best (or worst) by any stretch, however the UFC’s new home felt it important that they apologize. According to reports, Sonnen himself will also need to apologize.
“FOX Sports regrets the comments Chael Sonnen made during last night’s edition of FOX Sports Live. They were an inappropriate attempt at humor that Sonnen acknowledges shouldn’t have been made and he apologizes to anyone who may have been offended by his remarks.”
Sonnen may be in hot water with his employers at Fox, but with his fight coming up, he will have time to let things cool before returning to his own weekly show UFC Tonight. Let us know in the comments if the comments by Sonnen should or shouldn’t be apologized for.
