Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua looks to be continuing his title hunt with a fight against young up and comer, Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fox 5 in the co-main slot. The UFC is coming strong on Dec. 8 with their fifth television broadcast with Fox as the headline will feature a free title fight between champ, Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz. Also, they’ve officially tossed in Penn vs. MacDonald and with one more the main card will be complete. Besides that, all we need is an under card and location and we’re set.
Shogun’s fourth round finish of Brandon Vera at UFC on Fox 4 must of impressed the Fox execs as they call for his return. Perhaps now taking a fight against a young opponent, he will look to shake the stigma that he is’ ducking’ up and comers, as he was publicly said by UFC president Dana White to have refused undefeated Glover Teixeira.
25-year-old Gustafsson has looked phenomenal in his climb up the 205 ladder with five straight wins, almost all with finishes. Ask Thiago Silva, Vladimir Matyushenko, Matt Hamill, and James Te-Huna – the kid is dangerous standing and on the ground. Holding only one loss against Phil Davis, Alexander evolved as he joined Davis in camp to patch up his grappling holes.
We will be reporting the missing fourth headline, venue and undercard as the UFC makes them official.
