Seven fighters cut from the UFC, including Phil De Fries

The UFC continues to prune its expanding roster, as it grows in new divisions and adds female warriors to the promotion. Most notable on the recent cut list is heavyweight Phil De Fries (9-3). After going 2-3 as of late, he will now be in need of finding a new organization to serve. He may have taken out talents Rob Broughton and Oli Thompson, but after losing via first round finishes to knockout artist Stipe Miocic, Todd Duffee, and most recently Matt Mitrione, he’s been asked to clear out his locker.

Besides De Fries, many TUF alumni had to go as well. Jimmy Quinlan, Kevin Casey, Gilbert Smith, Collin Hart and Adam Cella were all handed their papers after their TUF finale showings.

Most critics and fans were quick to assume that Strikeforce imports would be incapable of hanging with the UFC talent in their transition, however it’s actually been the opposite. Out of all the imports, only one man has been reportedly cut after their showing and that’s Chris Spång. After putting on a lackluster decision loss in his welterweight debut against Adlan Amagov at UFC on Fuel TV, the UFC has decided to part ways.
