Ryan Bader Beats Rashad Evans For Fifth Straight Win, But What’s Next?

It’s not necessarily fair, but it’s safe to say that Ryan Bader is not among the biggest stars of the UFC’s light heavyweight division.

When asked who comes to mind in the 205 lb class, most fans would rattle off names like the current division champion Daniel Cormier, controversial pound-for-pound entrant Jon Jones, or two-time title contender Alexander Gustafsson.

But Bader, who defeated former 205 lb titlist Rashad Evans last night at UFC 192 in Houston, has quietly scored five straight wins in the division — leading to talk of a title shot.

“Obviously, I want a title shot,” Bader said at the UFC 192 post-event press conference. “We’ve got Jon Jones back in the picture, so I’m going to control the things that I can control and that was the fight in front of me — that’s Rashad (Evans). We’ll see what happens with the Jon Jones situation.”

When asked who else he could be interested in fighting besides the champion, Bader mentioned the last man to defeat him: Glover Teixera.

“I’m here to fight,” he said. “If Jon Jones comes back and he’s fighting (Daniel) Cormier, I have some people on my mind that I’d like to fight. I’d like to get my last loss back with Glover (Teixeira). That’s one fight I’d like to get back.”
