UFC 158 may be all about the welterweights, but it looks like UFC on FX 8 is all about the middleweights. The main event pits former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold against Vitor Belfort, and the co-main event has Ronaldo Souza facing off against Costa Phillippou. Now the UFC has added Ultimate Fighter runner-up CB Dollaway against Cezar Ferreira, and former Strikeforce stars Roger Gracie and Tim Kennedy against each other. UFC on FX 8 takes place on May 18 at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
This will be Dollaway’s second straight fight in Brazil after taking on Daniel Sarafian this past January, where he won by split decision. He is going to take on Ferreira, who was supposed to face off with Daniel Sarafian in the Ultimate Fighter: Brazil middleweight finals, but Sarafian injured himself in training and Ferreira instead fought Sergio Moraes. This will be Ferreira’s first fight since winning his season of the Ultimate Fighter.
Gracie and Kennedy are coming into the UFC with little fanfare, and that is a big mistake by everyone involved. Kennedy’s record sits at 15-4 with 13 finishes, and he only lost in fights for the title in the now defunct Strikeforce promotion. In Gracie, he faces probably the best BJJ grappler in the middleweight division, because in Gracie’s six wins he has captured five submission victories. Kennedy proved he is tough to submit in his fight with Souza, so even if Gracie is able to get it to the ground, it is not a given that he will finish the fight there.
