UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koscheck 2 Live Results and Play by Play

UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koscheck 2 will take place Saturday, December 11, 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia. This will be the second time these adversaries meet in the Octagon. St-Pierre bested Koscheck back in August, 2007 by unanimous decision. Since then Koscheck has explained that he has evolved to a full mixed martial artist and will avenge his loss.

Also headlining the card will be another fight in the welterweight division between former contender Thiago Alves and newcomer, John Howard. Also featured is a lightweight bout between Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson and Mac Danzig.

Main card

Welterweight Championship bout:

Georges St-Pierre (c) vs.  Josh Koscheck
Georges St-Pierre defeats Josh Koscheck via unanimous Decision via 50-45

Round One
St-Pierre comes forward and gets the first takedown at 20 seconds. Koscheck uses the cage to pop back up. St-Pierre as usual is more active in movement over his opponent. St-Pierre lands stiff jabs to the chest and face. St-Pierre fails a takedown and resets. Koscheck is already cut on the eye from jabs. St-Pierre fails a takedown and pays with a knee. Koscheck catches some more jabs and already starts to swell. Koschecks jaw looks to be hurting him. Koscheck looks continually a second behind in strikes. Koscheck attempts a take down and is stuffed by St-Pierre. Koscheck continues to push and still gets the takedown late in the first. Koscheck lands some small strikes from the guard to end the round.

Round Two
Koscheck’s right eye is already swollen almost completly shut. St-Pierre contines with that jab. GSP starts sensing hesitation and comes forward more with a missed superman punch. GSP starts throwing high and low kicks. St-Pierre lands more jabs. Koscheck gets a hook in but does not land flush. The two continue to exchange with Koscheck getting the worst of it. Koscheck looks wobbled but St-Pierre does not rush. St-Pierre continues on and on landing a doubled up jab. GSP lands a switch kick. St-Pierre switches stance at the last ten and attempts to come forward but Koscheck circles away.

Round Three
Koscheck gets nailed with GSPs right. Koscheck stuffs a takedown and the two grapple against the fence. The action now slowed on the fence with St-Pierre  leaning on Koscheck against the fence. St-Pierre attempts to change levels but Koscheck stops it and splits the distance. Koschecks inside leg gets caught by St-Pierre’s low kicks and shows the damage. Koscheck is looking at the clock with 45 seconds left. Koschecks kicks and punches are looking even further from landing than before.

Round Four
The doctor is looking at Koschecks eye and they give him the okay to fight. GSP looks to be turning it up now landing punches, kicks and gets a takedown almost taking his back but the two stand with Koscheck catching a knee on the way up. GSP pushes Koscheck against the fence and Herb Dean resets them in the middle of the Octagon.  Koscheck continues to attempt over the top rights missing and even stumbling down at one point. More of the same of St-Pierre landing from outside with kicks and jabs. The crowd is now chanting GSP. St-Pierre takes the tempo up again for a few seconds landing the left hook Freddie Roach talked about.

Round Five
St-Pierre lands the left hook 1 out of 3 attempts. Koscheck tries to desperately come forward for two takedowns with no luck. Koscheck is throwing large hooks missing. St-Pierre keeps Koscheck at bay with popping jabs. GSP ties Koscheck up against the fence and Koscheck’s eye starts bleeding. GSP gets the takedown but pops up and GSP takes him right back down. Koscheck slowly works up the fence and gets back up. St-Pierre continues to try to push Koscheck against the fence but Koscheck breaks loose for the last 30 seconds. The two embrace in a hug an share words in each others ear.

Heavyweight bout:
Sean McCorkle vs.  Stefan Struve
Stefan Struve defeats Sean McCorkle via TKO (Strikes) – Round One (3:55)

Round One
McCorkle circles and ducks under some punches for a big double-leg takedown. McCorkle from half guard gets a kimura tight. Struve works from the fence to get away and is successful. McCorkle stays on top trying to advance position but is denied by the long legs of Struve. McCorkle tries to stand and Struve throws an armbar up. Struve close to finish but no luck as McCorkle slips away. McCorkle still in the guard trying to advance with a can opener but unsuccessful. Struve postures for a kimura and gets a reversal into full mount. McCorkle gives his back as Struve  ground and pounds his way to victory at 3:55 of the first!

Lightweight bout:
Jim Miller vs.  Charles Oliveira
Jim Miller defeats Charles Oliveira via submission (kneebar) – Round One, (1:59)

Round One
The two come out and tap gloves. Oliveira shoots a single but Miller shakes it off. Oliveira lands two head kicks, Miller shoots in and gets caught in a guillotine. Miller breaks out and starts to GNP from the guard. Oliveira continues to throw up different submission almost catching an arm. Jim Miller catches a knee bar and quickly taps intelligently because of the amount of leverage Miller had on the knee. The time of 1:59 of the first round.

Lightweight bout:
Joe Stevenson vs.  Mac Danzig
Mac Danzig defeats Joe Stevenson via knockout – Round One, (1:54)

Round One
Stevenson comes forward quickly getting clipped on the chin but looks unaffected. Both men look to be keeping the distance. Both men throwing many faints. Stevenson connects with a right hand over the top. Stevenson dives in and catches a left straight as Danzig steps back that floors Stevenson instantly, dropping him like a stack of bricks. Buffer announces the time of 1:54 seconds of the first round. We may have just witnessed KO of the night.

Welterweight bout:
Thiago Alves vs.  John Howard

Thiago Alves defeats John Howard via unanimious decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Round One
Early Alves catches the chin of Howard and stuffs a takedown. Alves takes Howard down with ease. The two scramble up. Alves continues to land in the stand-up with combination’s. Alves lands a huge leg kick and follows up with a knee to the face of Howard that does not land flush. Alves looks a little shaken winging shots. Alves continues to counter with punches and follow up high and low kicks. Howard unable to get the timing down. Alves continues to work the lead leg into the end of the round. Howard is seen limping back to his corner.
Caged Insider gives the round to Thiago Alves 10-8.

Round Two
Alves continues attacking the lead leg with low kicks. Alves keeps his hands tight to his face coming in with jabs, and leg kicks. Howard is  starting to limp more on his lead left leg. Howards foot movement becoming less. Alves lands a high kick to the head. Moments later rushes Howard across the octagon for a takedown. Thiago Alves finishes the round in Howards guard softening him up with ground and pound.

Round Three
Alves comes out looking refreshed while Howard is still breathing heavy. Alves continues catching the lead leg. Howard attempts a single-leg takedown and but is stopped by Alves. The two back up and start swinging with neither landing. Alves looks to be more cautious backing up, but then suddenly catches Howard with a straight right that drops Howard coming in, but quickly pops back up. Howard swells on his forehead from the straight. The two continue to exchange with Alves looking to get the best of the striking. Alves starts digging big kicks into Howards ribs and legs. Last five seconds Howard tries to rush forward but unsuccessful in his attempt. The fight ends and the two fighters embrace with Howard raising Alves’s hand.
