Jones decisions Evans at UFC 145 – Play by Play

Atlanta, Georgia – The UFC 145 main event has come to a closing with the UFC title not changing hands. Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones (16-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) has successfully defended his UFC light heavyweight title for the third straight time, defeating former-friend turned adversary, Rashad Evans (17-2-1 MMA, 11-2-1 UFC). Here is the full fight play-by-play for Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans.

Round One:
Jones takes the center. Jones goes to the body and trips coming in. Quickly he pops up. Jones lands a head kick. Knee lands for Jon as Rashad steps forward. Jumping side kick to the knee misses for Jones. Over hand right misses for Jones and Evans counters nicely. Left head kick lands again for Jones. Jones continues to throw head kicks that are now missing their target. Jones lands a big left. Front knee kick lands on Evans, similar to what Jones used on Jackson. Jumping switch kick lands for Jones. Superman punch misses for Jones as he stays sporadic. Head kick lands for Rashad. Evans follows with a jab. Jones looked slightly shaken, but weathers the storm and finishes round with big left.

Round Two:
Jones stalks and gets the clinch momentarily long enough to sneak an elbow. Big front kick to the face misses for Jones. Jones gets cocky as he wipes sweat off on his rear while walking away from Jones. Spinning back kick misses for Jones and Evans rushes attempting to gain control but unsuccessful. Evans lands to the body. Jones lands a big elbow. Now Jones goes to the body. Elbow rocks Evans. Jones against the fence, Jones grabs the clinch. Elbow again on the exit lands for Jones. Elbows back to back for Jones. A left hook hurts Evans as the round ends.

Round Three:
Evans lands a big overhand that shakes Jones. Jones now more composed, both men reset. Jones lands with the head kick. Jabs land for Evans. Flying knee follolwed by elbow shakes Evans. Another flying knee with an elbow and Evans responds with a hook. Switch kick lands to the body of Evans. Rashad shoots in and Jones stuffs with ease. Evans lands to the body. Headkick to back kick misses by Jones.

Round Four:
Jones lands a right, then a left short after. Spinning elbow misses for Jones. Evans looks to be sticking to the jab. Evans fails the takedown. Jones is backing Evans as he may be out of ideas. Evans shoots in and Jones grabs the guillotine and starts to throw knees. Elbow lands the short elbow again.  Evans grabs the clinch and Jones uses his elbow as a striking weapon. Jones shoots as the round ends and it’s stuffed.

Round Five:
Evans comes out aggressive, but unable to get inside. Big right lands for Jon Jones. Head kick lands for Jones. Flying knee lands for Jones. Jones tosses Evans to the ground like a ragdoll. The two reset. Jones pulls guard and begins throwing elbows from the bottom as the round ends.

Jones, the youngest man to retain a title in the UFC, edges one step closer to breaking Tito Ortiz’s record of five consecutive title defenses in the light heavyweight division. With Jones clearing out most of the divisions top opponents, UFC president Dana White has announced that challenging would be imported former (vacated) Strikeforce light heavyweight champ, Dan Henderson.
