It looks like top ranked bantamweights T.J. Dillashaw and Raphael Assuncao are going to fight after all, after their September 4th bout fell through due to the latter being injured.
According to MMA Fighting, sources “close to the situation” have confirmed that Dillashaw and Assuncao will throw down October 9th, at UFC Fight Night 29 in Barueri, Brazil. Globo.com was reportedly the first to report the tilt.
Dillashaw (8-1) has worked his way into the promotion’s #10 ranking, by scoring wins over Walel Watson, Vaughan Lee, Issei Tamura and most recently Hugo Viana. Dillashaw currently holds a 4-1 record with the promotion, as his only loss came via UD to John Dodson, who defeated him in the finals for TUF 14.
Assuncao (20-4) has also been making moves at 135 pounds, as the veteran has won four straight fights ,after being knocked out by featherweight contender Erik Koch in 2011. Most recently, Assuncao tapped out the aforementioned Lee with a second round armbar, at a UFC on FUEL TV event in June. Assuncao is currently ranked #6.
So, that’s a pretty sweet addition to the October 9th card, which has not been officially announced. Bouts that are expected to take place (so far) include Jake Shields vs. Demian Maia, Erick Silva vs. Dong Hyun Kim, and Rony “Jason” vs. Jeremy Stephens.
