After having to withdraw from a scheduled bout with Ryan Couture at UFC 164, due to a broken hand, Quinn Mulhern reportedly has his next assignment and its lightweight vet Thiago Tavares.
According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, sources close to the UFC have confirmed that the two will fight November 9th at UFC Fight Night 32. That card will go down in Goiania, Brazil and will feature Vitor Belfort taking on Dan Henderson in the headliner.
Tavares (17-5-1) hasn’t fought since January, when he was stopped by rising lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC on FX 7. Prior to the loss, Tavares had scored wins over Sam Stout and Spencer Fisher. The BJJ black belt is 3-2 in his last 5 fights.
Mulhern (18-3) made his October debut in March and was stopped by Rick Story at UFC 158. The loss came after the accomplished grappler had won three straight bouts under the Strikeforce banner. The only other man to defeat Mulhern in his last 10 fights is UFC vet Jason High.
Other bouts that have been confirmed for UFC FN 32 thus far are Cezar Ferreira vs. Daniel Sarafian, Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Ryan LaFlare and Rafael Cavalcante vs. Igor Pokrajac.
