Report: Mark Hunt Began Camp at 340 lbs, is Nearly 20 Pounds Over HW Limit

So, how’s your day going?

Probably a little more pleasant than that of UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt, who fights in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Nelson in Saitama, Japan.

Hunt was reportedly 284 lbs, or 19 pounds over the heavyweight limit, with less than 24 hours remaining for the weigh-ins for the event.

(It’s already Friday in Japan, and the fights will begin around midnight Eastern time — on Friday — here in the US.)

According to the report from Kevin Iole from Yahoo! Sports, Hunt began his training camp for the bout at a whopping 340 lbs. He’s said to be spending his time prior to weigh-ins in a sauna.

Hunt weighed in at 262 lbs for his last UFC appearance, a memorable “slug-fest” with Antonio “Big Foot” Silva.

Should Hunt miss weight, his scheduled opponent Nelson will have the option to fight anyway (and collect 20% of Hunt’s purse) or cancel the fight.

Weight issues have plagued the UFC in recent events, with the Renan Barao/TJ Dillashaw headliner cancelled at the last minute, and another fighter on the card scratched at the last minute.
