Looks like we now get the former WEC champ versus the former Strikeforce champ at UFC on Fox 9. But what happened to the original top contender TJ Grant? It seems the knockout artist is once again unable to be approved by the commission for his title fight. The replacement could not be a better one though as Nor. Cal local Josh Thomson steps in for the Sacramento event on Dec. 14.
Thomson (20-5) made a splash return to the UFC as he took out Nate Diaz with a second-round viscous head-kick knockout. Prior to the victory, the former champ would lose a close and controversial split decision with then champ Gilbert Melendez.
Anthony Pettis (17-2) is coming off a dominating dismantling of the former champ Benson Henderson at UFC 164, picking up not only a new belt but his fourth straight in the Octagon. Pettis’ two losses were decisions to better wrestlers, which he has looked to have addressed as he stopped Henderson’s shoots with ease.
