‘Showtime’ Pettis drops ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC on Fox

Living up to his moniker is an understatement. Anthony Pettis (16-2) has continued to prove to be a contender for the lightweight strap as he the first man to defeat fellow WEC contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (19-5-1).

It was the Tae Kwon Do background of Pettis that proved to make the difference, as he finishes Cerrone with back-to-back shin strikes to the midsection in the first, crumpling Cerrone. Most notable in the fight was yet another ‘super-highlight reel’ strike as he pulls off the first ever cage to knee strike in the Octagon.

Official: Anthony Pettis defeats Donald Cerrone via TKO (kicks) – Round 1, 2:35

Following the win, Pettis called to White. “Dana White, what else do I need to do to get that title shot?”Pettis is the last man to hold a victory over the current UFC champ Benson Henderson. With the victory being one of the most unique, featuring the astonishing kick off the fence, it won’t be hard to sell a rematch, should the champ get past vacating Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez on April 20th.
