Marijuana users in combat sports can now breath easily (in). At least in Nevada, as executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) Keith Kizer has shared with Zeus of MiddleEasy that he has raised the allotted marijuana metabolites in testing from 50 ng/ml to 150 ng/ml.
It was a surprise for most when the Commission first announced that they would allow any marijuana metabolites — initially allowing up to 50 ng/ml. NSAC is not only the leading commission in the sport, but also known as one of the more strict commissions in testing.
Now with the change, Zeus predicts that a fighter could smoke up to a week prior to the testing. Even that may be too high of a risk however. Considering how fighters such as Nick Diaz and Matt Riddle have faced harsh financial penalties as well as lengthy 6 – 12 month suspensions, it puts a hefty price tag on the leafy greens.
What’s your opinion in the matter? Step in the right direction or is NSAC showing ‘clouded’ judgement?
