Nick Diaz facing one year suspension after testing positive for marijuana metabolitesFebruary 9, 2012 by Joe Rocha
The rumors of Nick Diaz’ failing his UFC 143 drug test due to marijuana metabolites found in his PED test have proven to be true.
Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director, Keith Kizer has released (via email) the verification that Diaz is the sole fighter out of 18 to fail the “performance enhancing drug” testing process. The news comes shortly after Diaz suffered a five-round controversial decision to now interim-champ and former WEC champion Carlos Condit.
This is not the first time Diaz has failed a test for marijuana, as back in 2007 Diaz failed following a a victory over Takanori Gomi in Pride FC promotions.
The penalty for the failed drug test will now likely be a one-year suspension of his fighting license and 40% of his 200k show purse.
Originally in planning, UFC president Dana White had tweeted that a rematch between Condit and Diaz was in works. Now with Diaz on the shelf for 12-months, champ Georges St-Pierre will have likely have made his return prior to Diaz’.

Can someone explain how marijuana is a performance enhancing drug?
You don’t feel that much pain when you’re high….??? That the only thing that comes to mind. It’s definitely a PED in competitive eating competitions though
its not the reefer but the metabolites found there in
He is a good fighter but he is unprofessional in the way he carries himself, the way he behaves and now this. There are plenty of other welterweights that will take his spot quite happily.
Shoot this bitch away!!!! Diaz brothers #talktoomuch #talktoomuch #talktoomuc, just like Bitchael Sonnen.
