Nick Diaz really has been the gift that keeps on giving in the build-up to this Saturday’s UFC welterweight title showdown with Georges St-Pierre in Montréal.
First there was his epic performance during the conference call, then earlier today he once again stole the show at the UFC 158 pre-fight press conference, and now he’s been talking to Sportsnet, where he was more open than ever, all the while confirming his belief that GSP is on steroids. He even goes as far as to suspect that Dana White is aware of this and protecting the champion. [Full Audio HERE]
“Sure, I believe [St-Pierre’s] on steroids and I don’t think they test around here either. I doubt I’ll be tested as well. No matter what they’re saying or marketing to the media, I don’t think either of us will be tested, and if so, he probably has a bottle of piss in his pocket. Ya know, I doubt they’re standing over him, making sure he’s not on steroids.”
When further prompted by the interviewer whether Diaz was implying that “the face of the company was on steroids and that its president was complicit in it”, he didn’t hold back, citing the case of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong.
“Sure, why not? Lance Armstrong is on steroids! And it really was a ridiculous thing he was on steroids, as far as he was concerned.”
Of course, when asked whether he himself could guarantee he would pass any drug tests, he reiterated what he said in the presser that he would be sorry if he tested positive.
With all this drama you sometimes have to remind yourself that there’s a fight this weekend. It promises to be fireworks.
