With the closure of Strikeforce comes top tier athletes such as Josh Thomson. After a controversial loss for the title against Gilbert Melendez, Thomson will test his luck against the very tough Stockton striker, Nate Diaz. The two are scheduled to scrap on the upcoming April 20th card in San Jose, CA. The event will be distributed on the UFC’s largest platform of FOX in their seventh show. Headlining the card is Diaz’s training partner and friend Gilbert Melendez, as he attempts to strip the belt from current champ Benson Henderson.
Like his opponent, Nate Diaz was last seen fighting for the title at UFC on Fox 5, in which he was out-struck for five rounds by Henderson. This was the end of a three-fight win streak in the division.
“The Punk” Josh Thomson returns to the UFC after his last run in the organization (2-1) was stopped by Yves Edwards. As of late Thomson has gone 10-4 in his overall Strikeforce career. A former champ, Thomson was an obvious choice to make the move.
Here is the current, stacked card as it stands.
