MMA fans received answers to two of the biggest “question marks” in the UFC’s lower weight divisions yesterday.
First was the question — what will happen with Myles Jury? A fixture in the UFC’s lightweight division since 2012, Jury suffered the first defeat of his MMA career in his last bout: a one-sided decision loss to perennial contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone back in January. What’s next for the 26 year old Michigan native, now based out of Power MMA in California?
Second was the question — when will Charles Oliveira return to action? The featherweight was on a four fight win streak when he suffered a strange injury loss to Max Holloway in his last UFC appearance back in August. That injury, originally reported as an “esophagus tear,” left many wondering about the 25 year old Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist’s future in the sport. Later, it was termed a minor neck injury, but there’s been little news since regarding the Sao Paulo, Brazil native — who now makes his home in Texas.
As it turns out, Jury has decided to move down to featherweight, where he will face none other than Charles Oliveira at the UFC on Fox event Dec 19.
Jury, who is 15-1 in MMA, was originally scheduled to face Anthony Pettis back in July, but Pettis pulled out due to injury. Oliveira, who is 20-5 in MMA, will be competing for the third time in 2015 with this bout. The Brazilian also fought three times in 2014.
UFC on Fox 17 will take place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida and is headlined by a title bout between champion Rafael Dos Anjos and challenger Donald Cerrone.
