Two wrestling powerhouses are going to war at UFC on FOX 5. Mike Pierce and Aaron Simpson will look to reestablish their careers by one of them putting together back-to-back wins, and the other will being sent to the back of the line at 170.
Mike Pierce has suffered some tough losses in his UFC career, but some of them have earned him the respect of his bosses and fans alike. His defeats have come by top fighters at 170 in Johny Hendricks, Jon Fitch, and Josh Koscheck, and the losses to Hendricks and Koscheck being close. In the fight against Fitch he actually showed his true ability by dominating the second round. Since the loss to Koscheck, he picked up a win over Carlos Rocha, but in Simpson he has a tough test against him.
Aaron Simpson actually had a decent career at middleweight before moving down to welterweight. After a loss in which he was just plain out-muscled, he decided to make the drop. He was originally set to face Jon Fitch, but instead he outmatched Kenny Robertson to a decision win. At age 38 a loss would set Aaron back too far to ever make it to the title. He will have to continue to win if he ever hopes to make it to the title in any UFC division, and beating Pierce would say a lot about his ability to challenge a top ten welterweight.
